ACADEMIC PROGRAMS

Various research and graduate courses programs are offered by different IEWU Schools, to serve diverse needs for advanced study and graduate education in the changing social dynamics of both the East and the West.

The major academic study and graduate courses programs that will be offered jointly/collaboratively by the IEWU include: Certificates of Completion of Courses and Seminars, Certificates of Achievement, Associate Graduate Degrees, Master of Arts (MA), Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chinese-Western Comparative Philosophy, Doctor of Business Administration (EDBA) in East-West Decisions Management or Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Management Science and Management Philosophy.


INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF CHINESE PHILOSOPHY

1. Certificate of Completion

Short intensive educational programs are offered on Chinese Philosophical Classics and Classical and Modern Chinese Philosophical Schools. These programs stress both the theoretical aspect and practical aspects of the philosophical views.

2. Joint Degree Courses Programs With Leading Chinese Universities

It is planned that Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts are collaboratively granted by the IEWU and a leading Chinese or Western university in Chinese Philosophy, Chinese History, Chinese Language and Literature, Chinese Music, Chinese Arts, and other subjects.

Students could be enrolled either at the IEWU Headquarters in Honolulu or at the IEWU-collaborative universities of their preference in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong or other place. They can complete core and/or specific courses either at the IEWU Headquarters or at a collaborative institution before applying for their IEWU degrees.

3. Bilingual MA courses conducted in English and Chinese are offered in a Chinese/ Western university and/ or at the IEWU Headquarters in Honolulu.

4. The MA degree in comparative philosophy and MA in Chinese philosophy and civilization requires a total of 54 credits of course work and a thesis of 35,000 words.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF GLOBAL FINANCE

Doctor of Business Administration In Finance (EDBA in Finance) and Doctor of Science in Finance (EDS in Finance) Courses Programs

This School offers EDBA and EDS courses programs on financial analysis and decision-making at advanced level. The EDBA and EDS courses programs in finance require a total of 45 credits of course work and a thesis of 35,000 words under direction. The students are required to complete 10 courses of financial management, with 3 credits for each, including 7 advanced core courses in financial analysis, and other 3 chosen courses on various financial and/or management subjects. And the supervised thesis is of a total 15 credits.

The programs will require normally two years to complete, as the first year will be focused on courses requirements and the second year will be on the writing of the doctorate dissertation.

Interested students should have an adequate background in fundamental economic analysis, accounting, financial statement analysis, equity analysis, fixed income analysis, and portfolio management. The applicants for the programs must have at least a MBA or equivalent degree, and 3-5 years work experience in the relevant fields.

FINANCE 510D. Advanced Financial Statement Analysis
Advanced accounting systems, determination of how profit is determined and analyses of components of balance sheet, including pensions income taxes, off-balance sheet activities and hedging transactions.
FINANCE 520D. Advanced Equity Analysis
Knowledge of risk and return of stocks, financial ratios, including the dividend discount model industry analysis and technical analysis. How stock prices are reached based on analysis of various structures and trading arrangement of stock markets in the world.
FINANCE 530D. Advanced Fixed Income Analysis
Risk and return analysis of fixed income investments or bonds through the concepts of term structure, yield measures, indenture provisions, duration, convexity and credit ratings. Will also cover institutional aspects of the fixed income markets.
FINANCE 540D. Advanced Derivatives Analysis
Case studies of derivative structures such as option, forward and future. Option study analyses components of the option premium, put-call parity and valuation using Black-Scholes model. Future study analyses the basis risk, hedging and hedge ratio, the value of futures or forward contracts and the relationship between forward and spot prices. cover. The development and use of swaps, specifically interest rate and currency swaps, will also be studied.
FINANCE 550D. Advanced Quantitative Methods
Advanced statistics topics, including descriptive statistics, hypothesis besting and regression analysis. The quantitative methods will discuss topics such as time value of money, performance measurement, return computations and time diversification.
FINANCE 560D. Advanced Portfolio Management
Examine problems from combination of assets into a portfolio, perform risk and return analysis of asset using models such as CAPM and APT, and study efficient market theory and international diversification. The analyses will form a foundation to determine and construct appropriate portfolios for individuals or institutions.
FINANCE 570D. Security and Investment
The main topics include How to make correct financial decisions on the matters of investment in the form of security and other related financial products such as mutual funds, and how to conduct evaluations and create strategies and Projections. The teaching and learning will be based on local, regional and global case studies.

Focus on parametric, non-parametric analysis, event study approach, etc.

Focus on treasury and risk management in multi-national corporations and financial institutions, foreign exchange, money market instruments, Euro markets, derivative products, etc.

Focus on market microstructure, financial modeling, new market instruments, real state finance and the regulation of financial market, etc.

INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL OF GLOBAL MANAGEMENT

1. Certificate of Completion of Courses and Seminars

This School offers short intensive educational / training programs on East-West management systems and East-West approaches to decision-making, leadership and organization, marketing processes, accounting and finance, human resources management in the contexts of globalization and e-commerce. It also offers courses on East-West business communication and negotiation as well as conflict resolution in East-West and global contexts.

2. Collaborative Degree Courses Programs with Leading Universities in the Pacific Rim

The EMBA degree in Decision Management or Financial Management requires a total of 33 credits of course work and a thesis of 35,000 words under direction.

Descriptive statistics, frequency and probability distributions, sampling statistical estimation, confidence intervals, deviations, hypothesis testing, variance analysis, regression models, and applications.
MBA 505. Management Information Systems and Operations Research
Concepts, design and operation of MIS based on computer use. use of computer﷓based analytical systems and OR models for decision making, particularly with regard to structuring and management of organizations.
MBA 506. Marketing Management
Techniques of analysis of markets for developing, evaluating and implementing marketing strategies, marketing systems and forecasting.
MBA 507. Organizational Behavior and Human Resources Management
Analysis of organizations and organizational evolution, development, and reform interactions between organizations and related conflict resolution organizations of human resources and personnel management issues.

A basic and foundational approach to decision- making, leadership, market responsiveness, creativity in productivity, human resources development and synergetics. Specifically, the "C" Theory will be introduced.
MBA 603. Global Modeling and Quality Control Theory
Global systems as basis for decision- making concerning production and marketing objectives, movements of trends; Deming theory of quality control and systems improvement.
MBA 604. Business Ethics
A fundamental and yet global and/or East-West approaches to business ethics in management, marketing, sales or financial/ human resources management. Explorations into conflicts and resolutions of conflicts between business strategies and business ethics, cultures and policies.
